EMRTS has continued its collaboration with PROMPT Wales to strengthen the recognition and management of maternity emergencies in the pre-hospital setting.
Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT Wales) was recently delivered at the Wales Air Ambulance bases in Caernarfon and Dafen, bringing together EMRTS clinicians, midwives and multi-professional faculty to practise emergency scenarios, human factors and clinical decision-making in maternity emergencies. The aim of PROMPT Wales training is to improve outcomes for women and babies through multiprofessional learning, teamwork and communication, and is funded and coordinated by the Welsh Risk Pool.
Sara Jelfs, Midwife and Safety & Learning Advisor with the Welsh Risk Pool, said: “It has been fantastic to continue developing this collaboration with EMRTS and to see teams learning together in such a supportive multi-professional environment to strengthen the recognition and management of maternity emergencies in the prehospital setting. The feedback from the training has been extremely positive, with participants highlighting the value of hands-on learning, human factors, teamwork and the use of algorithms to support decision-making under pressure. It was particularly encouraging to see the improvement in confidence following the training, reinforcing the value of high fidelity simulation in strengthening pre-hospital perinatal care and improving outcomes for birthing people and babies across Wales.”
EMRTS Critical Care Practitioner Education and Training Lead Kate Humphries added: “We really value both the support and the expert knowledge of the PROMPT Wales team, and are grateful to them for sharing their expertise with us. Ultimately leading to improved treatment and outcomes for our obstetric patients within Wales’.
