One of EMRTS most longstanding clinicians has received his MBE.
Ian Bowler, who has worked with the service since its inception, was presented with the award by the Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace.
“This was awarded for his outstanding contribution to pre-hospital care in Wales. We hope he celebrates comprehensively and send him our congratulations.”
EMRTS Director David Lockey said: “We are delighted that Ian Bowler, one of our most longstanding consultants, collected his MBE this week.
Ian began his career training in anaesthesia in 1993 and joined the local pre-hospital care organisation Medserve.the South Wales scheme of the British Association of Immediate Care, in 1998.
In 2000 he became a Consultant Anaesthetist at University Hospital Llandough, and also the Clinical Lead of Medserve.
Between 2011 and 2015 he was the Welsh region representative on the IBTPHEM training committee and became the first Wales PHEM Training Programme Director.
He was one of the first group of clinicians selected for EMRTS in 2014, and is now also the chairman of the Medserve Wales charity, and an examiner for the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care.
He said: “I felt very humbled to have been awarded the MBE for my work in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine and very grateful to all the people that have supported me throughout my career, especially my wife Katie and the rest of my family. I couldn’t have done it without them.”
